During the first civilization people prioritized their focal point on the development of agriculture and domestication of animals. For that purpose, people moved towards the fertile land near the water reserves and canals. Recorded in the history that wheat and barley were the first cultivations and sheep and goats were domesticated animals. For development and trading of agriculture and livestock they have built cities and started exchanging their excess belongings according to their necessities. The development of cities was synonymous with the rise of civilization and history, as the early civilizations arose from Mesopotamia. So also, recorded in history the Egyptian the Harappan and Chinese civilization.
Sumerian civilization is referred as the earliest civilization in the history as southern Mesopotamia, developing the first city-states. Sumerian farmers grew grains and other crops, from which enabled them to form urban settlements. Sumerians and Akkadians were the two tribes that lived during those eras.
In Bible it is written Cain was the father of agriculture and Abel shepherd the flocks. And as the generation increased civilization are untouched. People lived in the caves, moved into tents, expanded their livestock and started creating stringed musical instruments.
First God in Civilization
A civilization simply means people are more concentrated on their daily needs and concerned about the yield’s crops and livestock production’s. With these concerns when they observed, there are unknown forces which control their existence, in any adverse conditions and sacred times. They observed from their experiences, with better weather conditions and favourable atmosphere they could produce top quality agriculture. But at times, in spite of their exertions or poor weather and unfortunate situations they faced failure, at their yield too.
To attain a favourable weather condition for agriculture they decided to please this unknown power, hence they started praying and praising these mysterious powers. For a smooth transition towards the unknown power they decided to call with the name’ God’. Since they were not getting confidence in praying and worshiping this unknown power in their incarnated body nature, they wished for more sense angle, vision, feel, smell and sound of this power. They believed they could pray and worship much more strongly if they could see and feel this unknown power. Their observations about this unknown power finally concluded that the entities like Sun, Moon and Stars are the powers which control nature. They called these entities ‘God’ and started worshiping them.
Finally, they could uncover the fact that Sun, Moon and Stars are controlling nature and the environment with the help of five elements which are Akash (Sky), Vayu (Air), Agni (Fire), Jal (Water) and Prithvi (Earth). Their observations continued even though their daily needs escalated as the population increased. Along with the natural calamities which destroys their crops and livestock, that added to their challenges in their life and efforts.
As a final point, they came to the conclusion that there are supernatural powers which control these sun, moon and stars. Various positive supernatural powers and negative supernatural powers are there, already in nature. And they believed that, with the mating of these supernatural powers created the sun, moon, earth, stars and sea. They started naming such unseen powers, considering them as the parents of the seen Gods like sun, moon, stars etc! The three most important deities were An, Enlil, and Enki. Even though they invented these unseen Gods, to worship and pray they needed visual effects for these Gods. Hence from their imaginations they visualized supernatural characteristics images of such Gods in their caves.
Later they have invented four more deities, which originated the concept that God should be in male and female structure. So the new Gods were born with male and female nature namely Ninhursag, Nanna, Utu, and Inanna. The number gradually increased as the population increased and civilization distorted. For these Gods they have drawn the images with additional decorations, extra head, hand and parts of animals to denote and strengthen their supernatural powers.
If all these deities were born from human perception of supernatural powers, then they thought about the negative supernatural powers too. For the negative supernatural powers, they have visualized scary images and made stature’ accordingly! Like they called Gods for the mystical powers, they called evil too for the negative powers. Based on human deeds and need, blessing or curse that comes from these supernatural powers also visualized. Hence they decided to please both good and bad, to get favourable blessing from God and to avoid rage from evil forces.
There is no God, Goddess or evil as humans believe that will bring good and bad, it’s only human assumptions. There existed a supernatural personality who created the whole universe and life. This supernatural personality created a balanced universe with inhabitation, a well-established system which controls the purpose of nature, humans and the same wisdom of supernatural personality controls the system established through this existence. But with the incarnated body and corrupted mind, humans could assume all these. Not that the supernatural personality brings good as they thought, but a well-established system, which brings along the positive entities in our lives as many factors.
It is not the worship or any kind of pleasing deeds that brings out good from any system, neither the lack of prayers that source the calamities and disasters. Identifying this divine system and acting accordingly brings out the superior powers and ignorance about this system causes misfortunes. So it is very crucial and vital to understand the functionality of the system, to sustain this nature as heaven and not as a doorway to hell.
